The dielectric data of MLCC chip capacitors are ceramic compounds. Although the ceramic is resistant to contraction, it is not resistant to stretching and its texture is fragile.
When the mechanical stress applied to MLCC chip capacitor is too large, cracks will be produced to reduce the stress in this part.
In concave bending of PCB, because the force acting on this part is tightening force, there is no crack on MLCC chip capacitor (Fig. 1).
In the convex bending of PCB, the MLCC chip is prone to crack due to the tensile stress accepted at this part (Fig. 1).
